Kanye West
"Criticism can bother you, but you should be more bothered if there's no criticism. That means you're too safe."
Kanye West is a rapper, business man, father and husband. He is one of the most influential artist of our generation. He has been blazing the trail and causing great debates with his controversial comments. Kanye's songs are also very true to who he is and how he feels about the way things are. For example, his songs like Jesus Walks and Diamonds take a look at his political and religious views which was unlike his peers in the rap game who rap about the streets. Watching Kayne West over the years, I've learned that its okay to say what you feel. Also that if you have a passion for something and a dream to go for it. Kanye dropped out of school against his moms wishes to follow his dream. He showed me that sometimes being an innovator can be a lonely process if you are the only one who sees the vision you see but not to give up. In the first week of class we discussed what makes an innovator. As a class we came up with words and then put them into a word map that now is on our Moodle page and down below as well. The words that are bigger were said a lot and the ones that were smaller were said the least. As I look over the bigger words like fearless, determined, creative, motivated, and leadership to just name a few I really see that Kanye embodies those traits that we as a class named. He may not embody all of the traits but a big chunk of it he does.

Foundation: At Donda House he has a very successful program called Got Bars. Which is a 10 week program that helps at risk youth in Chicago to help them work on their musical writing. What makes him an Innovator:
1. Being able to do things that haven't been done before. He thinks outside of the box 2. Being committed to diversity. Kanye West didn't only stick to music but started his own clothing line 3. Being able to push the norm. He says what he feels and talks about the issues 4. Being able to take high risks. Kanye announced his bid for President in 2020 on stage at the 2015 VMA's |
The video above shows Kanye West is blunt but also passionate. He wants to see change and he felt that the President wasn't doing his job so he decided to call him out. West was upset so he became heavily involved in helping Katrina victims. He made a CD where all the proceeds went to Katrina victims. When Kanye said those words on live television he caught a lot of criticism from the media. As a innovator and leader Kanye could've used training on non-violent communication. He would've been able to express his feelings towards Katrina victims in a more professional way.
